The most progressive thing that has happened to the X-Men in the past decade was Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly’s run. The characters evolved, pun intented, in a natural way that made a long-time reader, like myself, feel satisfied in the knowledge that even if the X-Men confronted fucking Magneto or the Sentinels AGAIN, we’d be treated to an equally progressive reason for their antagonization of the series’ heroes.
When Morrison left the series it was back to the same old boring bullshit. Superhero costumes and the same status que. Please do not assail me with nonsense related to Joss Whedon’s mastabatory romp through the 80’s, M-Day or the tripe that has spun out of Messiah Complex, I read them - they were dull.
X-Men are now a diluted, derivative trip down all the same roads they’ve been down before.
